Under Sibley and Monroe, Eupetes belongs to the Cinclosomatinae, a subfamily of the enlarged Corvidae. The other subfamilies of Corvidae in East Asia are the Pachycephalinae (whistlers), Corvinae (jays, crows, etc.), Dicrurinae (drongoes, fantails, etc.), Aegithininae (ioras), and Malaconotinae (wood shrikes). Howard-Moore 2003 place Eupetes under the Eupetidae. The Chinese family name used here, 鹑鸫科 , refers to the quail-thrushes. The Japanese name, クイナチメドリ科 Kuina-chimedori ka, is based on that of the Rail-babbler. |
