(彩鹬科 Cǎi-yù kē
タマシギ科 Tama-shigi ka
Họ Nhát hoa)
The painted snipe, as bird experts are fond of pointing out, is not really a snipe at all. All three CJV languages, however, call them a kind of snipe, or, in the case of Vietnamese, a type of woodcock. |
Chinese: The painted snipe is known as 彩鹬 cǎi-yù ('coloured snipe') in Chinese. |
Japanese: In Japanese, the painted snipe is known as タマシギ tama-shigi ('jewelled snipe'), written 玉鷸 or 玉鴫. |
Vietnamese: In Vietnamese, the painted snipe is called Nhát hoa. The word hoa means 'flowery' while the word Nhát is used in the name of the woodcock (Scolopax rusticola). |
The distribution of the Rostratulidae in East Asia can be seen at Tzung-Su Ding's Distribution of Charadriies in East Asia. |
Chinese: 画眉 |
